Biography:
Joseph Wu, also known by his stage name Freehand Styler, was born in Hong Kong in 1963. Renowned for his mastery in capturing the delicate essence of flowers, birds, fishes, and insects, Wu's artistic journey is marked by a blend of strength and lightness in his brushwork. His paintings deeply reflect Chinese philosophy and often carry poetic meanings.
Artistic Career:
Wu has showcased his works in numerous exhibitions across China and Hong Kong, including his participation in the 9th to 12th Hong Kong Calligraphy and Painting Art Association Member Works Exhibitions held at Hong Kong City Hall. His artistic development took a significant turn in 2000's when he began studying Chinese Painting under Rev. Kwok Kuen Patrick Chan, an esteemed disciple of Professor Chao Shao-an. This mentorship profoundly influenced Wu's artistic style and philosophy.
Life in the UK:
In 2021, Wu emigrated from Hong Kong to the UK and settled in Nottingham. Since moving to the UK, he has been actively involved in community activities, frequently demonstrating his painting techniques and showcasing his works. Through these efforts, Wu aims to promote the Lingnan style of painting, allowing the public to appreciate its unique qualities. He continues to draw inspiration from nature, stating, "Nature has been my inspiration; for over fifteen years, I have diligently painted in nature’s own setting while combining Chinese and Western techniques." Wu's work remains a testament to the harmonious integration of different artistic traditions, highlighting the universal appeal and timeless beauty of his subjects.
